Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure aimed at increasing the size, changing the shape, or altering the texture of the breasts. This is commonly done using breast implants, but it can also be achieved through fat transfer, a technique where fat is harvested from another part of the patient's body and then injected into the breasts.

Purposes of Breast Augmentation:
Cosmetic Reasons: To enhance the appearance, size, and contour of the breasts.

Reconstructive Purposes: To restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy, or as part of the reconstruction after mastectomy for breast cancer.

Procedure: The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes incisions in inconspicuous areas to minimize visible scarring. Implants are then inserted either under the pectoral muscle or directly behind the breast tissue.

Recovery: Post-surgery, patients may experience swelling and soreness. Recovery varies but generally involves several weeks of reduced activity to allow the body to heal.
Considerations and Risks: As with any surgery, there are risks, including infection, changes in breast or nipple sensation, and implant leakage or rupture. The decision to have breast augmentation should be considered carefully and discussed thoroughly with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
It's important for individuals considering breast augmentation to have realistic expectations and understand that while the results are long-lasting, they are not guaranteed to last a lifetime. Implants may need to be replaced or removed in the future.
1
Breast Implants
These are the most common method for breast augmentation. Implants are medical devices placed under the breast tissue or chest muscles.
2
Silicone Implants
Filled with silicone gel, they are known for their natural feel.
3
Saline Implants
Filled with sterile salt water, they are filled at the time of surgery to allow for minor modifications in implant size.
4
Fat Transfer
This involves liposuction to remove fat from parts of the body where it is abundant, and the fat is then processed and injected into the breasts. This option is often chosen by those seeking a relatively smaller increase in breast size and a more natural result.
